About Dr. Laurel Parnell
Laurel Parnell, Ph.D. is the director of the Parnell Institute and developer of Attachment- Focused EMDR. She is an internationally recognized clinical psychologist, author, and leading expert on Eye-movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR therapy). Since 1995 she has trained thousands of clinicians in EMDR both nationally and internationally. She is the author of six books on EMDR, including her latest release - Rewiring the Addicted Brain
Basic Training Part 3 - 15-17.8.2026
In Part 3 of the Attachment-Focused EMDR basic training, we review the material from Parts 1 and 2, emphasizing the treatment of complex PTSD, resource development and installation, target development, case conceptualisation, working with blocked processing, dissociation, and abreactions. As in Parts 1& 2, this three-day training consists of lectures, demonstration videos, and small supervised practice sessions.
Learning Objectives:
Name and define the five basic principles of Attachment-Focused EMDR
Demonstrate EMDR procedural steps using the modified EMDR protocol
Construct protocols and procedures for using EMDR with a variety of clients, including those with complex PTSD and recent traumas
Identify techniques for working with blocked processing and strong emotional releases
Identify how to unblock blocked processing using interweaves
List methods for working with dissociation
Identify advanced methods for developing inner resources for developmental repair, interweaves, and client closure.
Describe how to apply EMDR for grief &loss
Course Requirements
You are an SPS Registered Psychologist, SAC Registered Counsellor, or have a Masters in Psychology or Counselling.
Completed EMDR Training Parts 1&2 with Parnell Institute.
Completed ten hours of consultation with a Parnell Institute consultant
Upon Completing this Course
Parnell Institute will award participants a Certificate of Completion upon completing all three parts of the EMDR basic training within two years. Completing the EMDR basic training fulfills one of the criteria to be an Attachment-Focused EMDR Certified Therapist.

Julie Probus-Schad - Faculty Parnell Institute / Senior Facilitator
Julie Probus-Schad is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with 30 years of experience working with individuals, couples, and families. She has a private practice in O’Fallon, Missouri. Julie is a Parnell Institute Trainer in Attachment-Focused EMDR Approved Consultant and Facilitator. Julie has facilitated training with the internationally recognized expert, Dr. Laurel Parnell, in Curacao, Singapore, Malaysia, and throughout the United States. She is a contributing author for, Rewiring the Addicted Brain with EMDR-Based Treatment (Parnell, 2019, pages 273-293).
Dr Yvonne Lek - Consultant Parnell Institute / Facilitator
Yvonne was an educator before joining the Ministry of Education as a Guidance Officer. In MOE, her work centred primarily on social-emotional learning, a key aspect in preventing mental health issues in children. Subsequently, she went into private practice and has been working with children and adolescents. Yvonne has a keen interest in supporting children who have been exposed to traumatic experiences, and completed her PhD research on the treatment of complex trauma in children in Singapore.
Amy Tan - Consultant Parnell Institute / Facilitator
Amy holds a Master of Social Science in Professional Counselling and a Graduate Diploma in Applied Psychology. She is a registered member and supervisor with the Singapore Association for Counselling. During her course of work, Amy counsels children of all ages, teenagers and families. Amy seeks to help individuals grow their self-awareness and empowers them to unleash their potential. With families, Amy aims to help build strong bonds among family members through strengthening of the marriage and positive discipline of the children. As a qualified Family Violence and Trauma-Informed Practitioner, she helps both the survivors and perpetrators of domestic violence in her course of work.
Amy is passionate about helping clients who have experienced trauma and is a registered practitioner and consultant with EMDRIA, the US certification body for EMDR.
